Some views on the complicated issues of 'real life'
Published on July 29, 2004 By oneofus In Philosophy
Questioning myself has come naturaly to me as I prepare for the wedding (and a child on the way) so one of the questions I'm asking myself is - am I egoistic? Elaborating on that, I also ask mister Me - Am I looking at things only from my point of view? Am I considering the events only evaluating the effects that affect me? Am I 'me-centric'?

Let's put aside the question of me writingh a bunch of questions that sound like the ones from the Sex & The City, how objective an answer I can get - asking me if I think me thinks too much about me, and the 'talking with yourself' problem. At the moment I am 'writing with myself' and there seems to be no problem in social acceptance of that. A lot of great writers did that and nobody calls them loonies for what is in effect 'talking with themselves' at length and on paper.

Where was I? Oh, yes, egocentricity. Is there anybody who doesn't do it? And this is the 'catch 22' - if You think about it, it means You are doing it and You cannot say 'I'm not'. Beacuse You are thinking 'I'm not egocentric as I don't just take my view of things, I am objective and consider everybody's point of view and all the presented arguments'. And how many things did You say 'I' in that sentence? And who is doing the thinking?

So, please, let's have no more 'egocentricity as a word. Everbody looks through their own eyes, listens through their own ears (if You're lucky enough to have them) and thinks with their own brain. So either everybody is or everybody isn't. Let's call it even.

Thanks.
I got the rings from the goldsmith today. Most of the things are arranged. As for the baby, that will be another story.
